Chattering with Andrew Robinson

I chatted with Andrew, briefly, about three films which have influenced him; Bergman's The Seventh Seal, Kurosawa's Seven Samurai and Fellini's 8 1/2.

We also spoke about drinking with Paul Newman during the filming of The Drowning Pool (1975); working with Clive Barker on Hellraiser and the fun of playing bad guys; his favourite of Clive's books, meeting the composer on Dirty Harry, Lalo Schifrin whilst hiking; how his novel about Garak in Deep Space 9 came through his process of preparing the role; his passion for classical and jazz music; his disappointment when playing a werewolf on X Files; why I should let my mind wander and much more.

Andrew is best known for playing Larry in Clive Barker's Hellraiser, the Killer in Dirty Harry and Garak in Star Trek: Deep Space 9. In 2004 he created the Master of Fine Arts conservatory actor training program at USC and recently played Prospero in The Tempest at a small Shakespere festival in Wyoming, and Theseus/Oberon in A Midsummer's Night Dream at the Disney Concert Hall.
