Shar Mayer and I discussed three female characters in horror; The Wicked Witch of the West, played by Margaret Hamilton in The Wizard of Oz; Ellen Ripley, played by Sigourney Weaver in Alien et al and Carol Peletier played by Melissa McBride in The Walking Dead. We also talked about how she started as a scare actor in Halloween haunted house attractions and her move into acting in movies; why haunted houses are popular in times of crisis; teaching makeup for scare actors; her next film Hollywood Baby Doll and much more.

Shar Mayer has been a performer in the haunt industry for almost 40 years. Starting in home haunts, then “Boo-scare” mazes and haunted hayrides, she has worked all the different types of haunts including large theme parks, extreme and theatrical haunts.

Her haunting has brought her into acting, appearing on stage, TV and film. She recently appeared for the third year in the live haunted attraction called, “The 17th Door”, as well as being featured in Jon Schitzner’s documentary film about the Halloween industry called, “Haunters: The Art Of The Scare”.

Among her many credits on TV are the Soska Sister's 'Hellevator', 'RuPaul Drag Race' and Robert Englund's FEAR.
