Gavin Robertson and I discussed his short film 'Wendigo' - a Western to be filmed in the wild landscapes of Scotland - and the films which influenced it 'The Revenant' and 'The Grey'. We talked about his plans for the film and why he chose a Native American myth rather than a Scottish one, the challenges of filming in snow; man vs nature as shown in The Grey and The Revenant and his work on Hex Media films, Lord of Tears, The Unkindness of Ravens and The Black Gloves.
Wendigo is a visceral, emotional and psychological horror short which has at its heart the haunting folk stories of native Americans about a creature called the Wendigo, an evil demonic spirit that possesses the body and tortures the soul of anyone who would commit the most inhuman sin of cannibalism. Most of these legends come from the Appalachian Mountains and Great Lakes tribes of north America where many travellers could find themselves caught in winters cold grip and be forced to do anything to survive. These tales were told to warn of the moral and spiritual corruption that comes from eating human flesh.
'Wendigo' is successfully funded on Kickstarter, but there's still time to support the project before the campaign ends on 15th March 2018 at:
